City levy to increase just 2.22 percent
Many might have been a little shocked when they opened their proposed property tax statement from Sibley County as there were some sharp increases that raised property taxes. Residents of Winthrop will be happy to know that the city’s portion of that statement has been reduced tremendously. At its regular meeting on Monday evening, the Winthrop City Council approved a final levy of $850,621 which results in a 2.22 percent increase over the previous year’s levy. The proposed levy the was certified by the County would have resulted in a 14 percent increase.
