Having a voice in the state and national legislatures isn’t something that is all too common around rural Minnesota. Many times, the voices in these areas are overshadowed by the larger metropolitan areas. That is not the case here as GFW has a person representing the interests of smaller schools both in Minnesota and the national government. Heather Bakke is the GFW Union President. For the past 3 1/2 years, she has been a member of the Education Minnesota Governing Board (the state union). Last year, she ran to be a National Education Association Director to which she is elected. She is one of three directors from Minnesota.
