GFW Board approves Horton’s contract, GFW principal accepts new job

The GFW School Board and Superintendent Jeff Horton agreed to a three-year contract with a salary of $120,000 the first year at a special meeting on June 3rd. The second and third year of the contract will each have one percent increase in salary. The contract included standard benefits including 20 days of vacation, 12 holidays, and 15 days of sick leave. Horton will receive family health insurance, plus a life insurance and long term disability insurance policy. Finally the Superintendent will have a tax shelter annuity. This contract was expected to save the District between $8,000 and $9,000 from current Superintendent Lonnie Seifert’s contract for the coming year. While his contract officially starts July 1st, Horton stated that he would like to get started and work with Seifert this month.

GFW High School Principial Justin Johnston has accepted a new position at the Waseca Junior Senior High School. Johnston will be the school’s assistant principal. Waseca has approximately 1,000 students in grades 7-12. The GFW School Board will discuss the junior senior high school position and consider the various options to fill that administrative position at its regular meeting on Monday, June 15. Also Erin Jacobson has been offered a position at the Redwood Falls School. She has been a literacy coach and teacher mentor the past couple of years. Previously she had been an elementary teacher and was being reassigned to an elementary classroom this fall. The Board is excepted to fill this position for the fourth grade classroom in the near future. The school is also advertising for a special education teaching position.
