Charles “Charlie” Schuch, age 86, of Winthrop, Minnesota, passed away on Tuesday, June 30, 2020, at Harmony River Living Center in Hutchinson, Minnesota. Funeral service were held on Tuesday, July 7, 2020, at 11:00 a.m., at the Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Winthrop with interment following in The Winthrop Cemetery. Clergy officiating was Michael Knuth. Honorary casket bearers Charlie Schuette, Steve Johnson, Paul Kehr, Michael Messner, Joe Stroebel, Nathan M. Knuth, and Alex Knuth. Casket bearers Ryan Schuch, Jeremy Schuch, Jillian Schuch, Renae Schuch, Tyler Schuch, and Austin Carpenter. Military Honors: Winthrop Honor Guard. Charlie is survived by his wife, Katherine “Kay” Schuch of Winthrop, MN; Children, Mark Schuch and his wife, Jackie, of Glencoe, MN, Kim Schuch of Gaylord, MN; grandchildren, Ryan (Anna) Schuch, Tyler Schuch, Renae (Austin Carpenter) Schuch, Jillian Schuch, and Jeremy (Leah) Schuch; great grandchildren, Chloe Schuch, Madelynn Schuch, Madyssen Schuch, and Ashton Carpenter; brothers-in-law, Mike Knuth and his wife Lori, of Pequot Lakes, MN, William Knuth, David Danalek of Milaca, MN, Wayne Knuth and his wife, Anne, of Duluth, MN; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Charles is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Hilda Schuch; sister, Marie Hilda Wagner; grandparents, George and Meta Fiebing; aunt and uncle who were very close to Charlie, Emma Varichek and Harold Goehl. Charles “Charlie” Norman Schuch was born on March 16, 1934, in Collins Township, McLeod County, Minnesota. He was the son of Charles and Hilda (Fiebing) Schuch. He was baptized as an infant and later confirmed in his faith as a youth. Charlie received his education in New Auburn, Minnesota, through the 8th grade and later earned his GED. Charlie entered active military service in the United States Air Force on February 26, 1952, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He received an Honorable Discharge on January 18, 1956, in Brooklyn, New York and achieved the rank of Airman First Class. On August 1, 1981, Charlie was united in marriage to Katherine “Kay” Knuth in Milbank, South Dakota. Charlie and Kay resided in Winthrop, Minnesota, and shared 38 years of marriage. Charlie was employed at the Sibley County Highway Department for 36 years. He retired in September of 2001. He enjoyed photography, fishing, and tinkering around the house. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Charlie had an adventurous side to him; in 1973 he took a trip down the Mississippi River in a pontoon that he built. Charlie passed away on Tuesday, June 30, 2020, at Harmony River Living Center in Hutchinson, Minnesota, at the age of 86 years. Blessed be his memory.
