Independent School District GFW Public Schools November 13, 2020 The special board meeting of the GFW School Board was held on November 13, 2020 in the Elementary School building. Chairperson Klenk called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. Also present: Superintendent Horton, Kuehn, Klenk, Lee, Vos, Haas entered at 6:02 p.m. Absent: None Kuehn moved with support from Lee to approve the agenda. Motion Carried. Canvassing Election Vos moved with support from Kuehn to approve the November 3, 2020 School Board Election results. Motion Carried. Independent School District GFW Public Schools November 16th, 2020 The regular board meeting of the GFW School Board was held on November 16, 2020 at the Jr./Sr. High School Auditorium Winthrop, MN. Board Chair, Klenk called the meeting to order at 6:37 pm. ALSO present: Superintendent Horton, Klenk, Kuehn, Haas, Vos, Press, Werner, Burns, Student Rep Peterson Absent: Lee Vos moved with support from Kuehn to approve the agenda with the addition of possible action about the Learning Model. Motion Carried. SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY RECOGNITION The Winthrop Honor Guard was recognized for their support to GFW Schools. VISITOR RECOGNITION – Dana Lietzau, concerned about the amount of time her kids had to be out of school due to COVID-19 quarantine guidelines. INFORMATIONAL ITEMS a. Yes-Kuehn, Haas, Klenk, Vos No- None Motion Carried. Learning Model Klenk moved with support from Haas to give teachers November 23 & 24 to work on putting a two week learning plan together. Para’s will work, sports will keep going and these are no contact days for students. Motion carried. EXECUTIVE (CLOSED) SESSION Develop or consider offers or counteroffers for the purchase or sale of real or personal property to be sold by the School Board. Klenk moved with support from Kuehn to close the regular board meeting at 7:12 pm for a Closed Session. Motion Carried. Klenk moved with support from Vos to open the Closed Session at 7:14pm Motion Carried. Klenk moved with support from Vos to close the Closed Session at 7:45pm Motion Carried. Chairperson Klenk called the meeting to order at 6:36 p.m. Also present: Superintendent Horton, Mr. Werner, Kuehn, Klenk, Lee, Vos, Haas, Press, Principal Thompson, via zoom; Principal Galetka, Student Rep Peterson Absent: None Vos moved with support Lee from to approve the agenda. Motion Carried. Learning Model Discussion 1. Distance Learning PreK – 12 2. Distance Learning except, ELL, SPED and at risk students 3. Prek -3 All Day/Every Day Learning, 4 – 12 Distance Learning 4. Continue as we are (all in person learning) Recommendation to continue with the In Person Model, have the Incident Command Team meet weekly and call emergency board meetings as needed. Independent School District GFW Public Schools December 1, 2020 The emergency board meeting of the GFW School Board was held on December 1, 2020 via Live Stream to YouTube with a link also available on Facebook, due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. Chairperson Klenk called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. Also present: Superintendent Horton, Mr. Werner, Kuehn, Klenk, Lee, Vos, Haas, Press, Principal Thompson, Principal Galetka, Student Rep Peterson Absent: None Klenk moved with support Vos from to approve the agenda. Motion Carried. Learning Model Discussion 1. Distance Learning PreK-12 2. PreK – 5, In Person Learning, 6-12 Distance Learning 3. Prek -8 In Person Learning, 9-12 Distance Learning 4. A/B Day Model, students coming every other day 5. Continue as we are (all in person learning) Vos moved with support from Lee to have PreK-8 In Person and 9-12 Distance Learning at least through December. Vos rescinded motion. Vos moved with the support from Lee to have all the students in person, but it’s not where we are at right now, so as a proactive move, PreK-8 In Person and 9-12 Distance Learning and review again at the end of December. Vos rescinded motion. Vos moved with support from Lee with the best interest of kids, in our heart, we would like to change the learning model to PreK-8 In Person, 9-12 Distance Learning. We are doing this as a precaution and review it again at the end of December. Haas – Yes Vos – Yes Lee – Yes Kuehn – No Klenk – Yes Motion Carried. This will begin December 7, 2020. Chairperson Klenk called the meeting to order at 6:37 p.m. Also present: Superintendent Horton, Klenk, Lee, Vos, Kuehn, Haas, Mr. Werner Absent: None Vos moved with support from Kuehn to approve the agenda. Motion Carried. Executive (Closed) Session Develop or consider offers or counteroffers for the purchase or sale of real or personal property to be sold by the School Board. Klenk moved with support from Vos to close the regular board meeting at 6:38 p.m. for a Closed Session. Motion Carried. Klenk moved with support from Vos to open the Closed Session at 6:40 p.m. Motion Carried. Klenk moved with support from Kuehn to close the Closed Session at 6:46p.m. Motion Carried. Release and Termination of Fairfax EDA Right of First Refusal Klenk moved with support from Vos to accept their paperwork on eliminating their First Right of Refusal. Resolution Declaring District Intent to Defeasance Escrow Klenk moved with support from Haas to accept this resolution as just stated by myself. Yes: Lee, Vos, Klenk, Kuehn, Haas No: None Motion Carried. Resolution for Approving the Sale of Former GFW Intermediate School, Located at 300 3rd Avenue SE, Fairfax MN to Retro Companies, Inc. Klenk moved with support from Kuehn to accept this resolution for the sale of the Fairfax building. Yes: Lee, Vos, Klenk, Kuehn, Haas No: None Motion Carried.
