City of Winthrop prepares a bill forgiveness program
The City of Winthrop passed a bill forgiveness program at its meeting on May 3. The transition plan to help individual that had been hurt by the pandemic was in accordance with a request made by the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission and the Minnesota Department of Commerce. Currently the City has $42,000 in delinquent utilities bills. This new plan would have the homeowner/business stay current with their monthly bills and make payments on the past due amounts. They would have a year to catch up and some of the past due amount could be forgiven.
