Sadness and smiles as St. Gregory’s closes

by Ruth Klossner
After 79 years of faithful service to Lafayette and the area, the St. Gregory the Great Catholic congregation held its final mass Sunday, August 8.
It was an emotional day, as former pastor Father Germaine Rademacher said in speaking to a colleague, “These people are celebrating, even in their sorrow.”
The church was filled to capacity for the 10:30 a.m. parish mass that tugged at the heartstrings of parishioners and community members alike. A church is an integral part of a community and it’s loss is felt by the entire community.
