Luz Campa Jr.

Luz Campa Jr, age 81 of Buffalo, passed away Saturday, August 28, 2021. He was born May 26, 1940 in Gaylord the 6th child of Virginia (Vallejo) and Luz Campa Sr. While growing up, Luz worked in the fields as a migrant worker alongside his parents and siblings. He graduated from Winthrop High School in 1959. After returning to Minnesota from the Air Force, Luz recognized Sandra Malmberg’s contagious laugh from a neighboring car. That day was the beginning of the greatest real life love story ever told. On that day, Luz reunited with his high school sweetheart and love the love of his life. Sandra and Luz were married on Christmas Eve 1963. With her love and encouragement. Luz knew that there was nothing he couldn’t accomplish. Luz graduated from Minneapolis Business College and the University of MN with a B.S. in Business Administration. He went on to enjoy a long and successful career with Opus Corporation. Luz was a strong and generous man. He shared his wisdom, time and resources with everyone he loved. Luz loved to win; whether at cards, in the gym or at the family reunion games, he never got tired of winning. Luz loved his children and grandchildren. He was a role model, showing us all how to live a wonderful life. In his words about his life with Sandra: “Together we traveled through 55 years of life; and what a life it was! It was an exciting adventure through time. We both knew how to live poor and we worked together to live well. You and I did good. Two small town kids from Lafayette and Winthrop. We did good.” Preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sandra; son, John David Campa; grandson, Steven Webb and siblings, Eleanor Bauman, Victoria Darnell and Michael Campa. Survived by daughters, Teresa Campa, Michelle (Mickey Mills) Campa; grandchildren, Justin Campa, Jesse Campa, Travis (Jessica) Campa, Jordan (Jaime) Campa, Valerie (Seth) Kruger, Josh Campa; siblings, Paula Bauman, Frank (Sue) Campa, Nick (Myrtle) Campa, Richard Campa, David (Sue) Campa, Dahlia (Daniel) Clifton, Christopher (Donna) Campa, Christina (Randy) Zehnder and Monica (Michael) Christian; sister-in-law, Connie Campa; also many other relatives and friends. Visitation for Luz were held on Thursday, September 2 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at The Peterson Chapel of Buffalo, MN. Mass of Christian burial were held Friday, September 3 at 11:00 a.m. visitation continued one hour prior to the mass at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church of Winthrop, MN. Celebrant was Father Bruno Santiago, OSB. Casket bearers were Luz’s grandchildren: Justin Campa, Jesse Campa, Travis Campa, Jordan Campa, Valerie Kruger and Josh Campa. Interment was in the Winthrop Cemetery of Winthrop, MN. Luncheon followed the burial at church. Arrangements were entrusted to The Peterson Chapel of Buffalo, MN.     The last time I saw Luz and Sandra was at Mike Johnson’s retirement gathering in Buffalo, I just happened to be home from NY. We had a nice conversation and talked about the past. My condolences to the family.
