It will be a busy weekend of Christmas celebration in both Winthrop and Gibbon. Winthrop will be holding Christmas in the County on Friday afternoon and evening while Gibbon will be holding Santa Day on Saturday.
Christmas in the Country
The festivities in Winthrop on Friday will begin at 2 p.m. with the Holiday Craft and Cookie sale at Hahn’s Dining and Lounge. The event is sponsored by the Winthrop General Federation of Women’s Club and will last until 6 p.m. There will be dinner specials from 4 p.m to 8 p.m. Dairy Queen, Winthrop Market, Pimo’s Bar and Grill, Tanker’s Sports Bar, Hahn’s Dining and Lounge, Ginny’s Cafe, Poppy’s Pizza and Lyle’s Cafe. Check out the specials on page 8. As was the case last year, a reverse parade will be held where the units will be parked along Second Street and Main Street and the specators will drive through the parade route. The parade begins at 5:30 p,m. theunits will remain until 7:30 p.m. At the end of the parade route, make sure the youngsters take the time to meet with Mr. and Mrs. Claus. The duo dressed in red and white will be handing out bags of treats by the Christmas tree located in the lot between Winthrop Market and Fit 365. While you are enjoying those events, you may want to stop in at the RS Fiber building to create spruce pots with Uncle Charlies Flowers II. After the parade, stop in at The Warehouse for a Christmas movie which is scheduled to begin at 7:45 p.m. Many of the businesses will have decorated store fronts so take in those sites as well. Mr. and Mrs. Claus will be voting on the winners which will be announced Monday, Dec. 6. The residential lighting contest will be judged the week of December 13-17 with the winners announced in the Winthrop News in the December 25 issue. There will be a $50 and $25 scrip money prize to the top two finishers, respectively. All decorated homes in the city limits will be considered. Rural residents must register. Winthrop Christmas in the Country event is sponsored by the Winthrop Area Chamber of Commerce.
Gibbon Santa Day
Santa and Mrs. Claus will be visiting Gibbon at the Gibbon Community Center on Saturday, from 10 a.m.-noon. The Gibbon Royalty will be helping out with crafts at the event. There will also be food and refreshments available. While the kiddos are waiting to see Santa, the parents can take a stroll about the Community Center and check out the booths at the craft and vendor fair. This will be available from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Welcome to Whoville Gibbonville Style will be held at Mary Jane’s locate across from the community center. You will be surrounded by the sites and sounds of Whoville while you enjoy warm apple cider and hot chocolate, and other goodies will be available for purchase. Bring you camera or phone and get photos with the Grinch, Max, Cindy Lou and many more.
