Gibbon Winterfest this weekend

There are a few new events at Gibbon Winterfest this year to go along with some annual standout ones. Puzzle Palooza will be held Saturday at D’s Pit Stop banquet room beginning at 4 p.m. Teams of four will be putting together a 500-piece puzzle eat a pizza and drink a bucket of eight beers. There will be prizes for all with the highest placing teams receiving cash prizes. Pre-register to make sure you have a spot. Another new event is the Painting Party at Shooters beginning at 2 p.m. Saturday. Pre-registration is advised. Participants will be painting a wooden sign. The Winterfest farmer’s market can be found at 941 Dewey Ave. from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday. After a few year hiatus, Gibbon Library will be holding a Winterfest kids movie and activities Saturday afternoon from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday also features a Winterfest crafting workshop put on by Minnesota Junkers at the Gibbon Community Center from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. You can make your own gnomes or fairy garden. Bad Dog Antiques is also doing Winterfest arts and crafts from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The weekend will kick off on Friday with Shooters annual soup and chili cook off. People should contact Shooters for entry time. Tasting will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and winners will be announced shortly thereafter. The 11th annual wine and beer tasting will be held Friday at the Community Center beginning at 6:30 p.m. All of the food vendors will be local. Hahn’s Dining and Lounge returns while newcomers will be Poppy’s Pizza, Ginny’s Cafe and Black Cherry Smokehouse. New beverage vendors include Bobbing Bobber Brewing Company of Hutchinson and Whit Wort Brewing Co. of Gibbon. Go in search of the Winter Medallion as clues to its whereabouts will be posted at the Gibbon Library. It begins at 10 a.m. Saturday with a new clue posted on the hour. It must be found by 9 p.m. on Sunday to claim the prize. The Gibbon Fire Department Chili Feed will be held Saturday, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the fire barn. It will once again be a drive-thru only event. BINGO players will have two chances to play, first at D’s Pit Stop on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. and then at the Gibbon Sportsmans Club at 1 p.m. Sunday. Coronation will be open to the public this year. It will be held Saturday, 7 p.m. in the GFW Elementary School gymnasium For a list of all of the events, times and locations, check out the Winterfest ad on page 2.
