Independent School District GFW Public Schools January 3, 2022 The special/organizational board meeting of the GFW School Board was held on January 3, 2022 at the Elementary School Gibbon, MN. Board Chair Kuehn called the meeting to order at 6:54 p.m. ALSO present: Superintendent Horton, Schmidt, Merkel, Prochniak, Haas, Lee, Press Hanson, Tech Werner, Principal Thompson, Principal Galetka, Community Member Absent: None Prochniak moved with support from Haas to approve the agenda with the addition of mandatory Policy 491, Executive Closed Session and the removal of Fixing GFW School Board Compensation. Motion Carried ELECTION OF OFFICERS Chair – nomination Kuehn, Schmidt moved with support from Lee. Cast with a unanimous ballot Vice Chair – nomination Haas, Prochniak moved with support from Kuehn. Cast with a unanimous ballot Clerk – nomination Lee, Merkel moved with support from Prochniak Cast with a unanimous ballot Treasurer – nomination Prochniak, Kuehn moved with support from Haas. Cast with a unanimous ballot OTHER BUSINESS Designate GFW School District Depositories Kuehn moved with support from Haas to designate First National Bank of Fairfax and PMA Financial as the primary official depositories and Perennial Bank of Winthrop and MinnWest Bank of Gibbon are secondary depositories for 2022. Motion Carried. Designate GFW School District Newspaper Schmidt moved with support from Haas to designate the Fairfax Standard Gazette and the Winthrop News as the 2022 GFW Public School District Official Newspapers. Motion Carried Name GFW School District Legal Counsel and Authorized Contact(s) Kuehn moved with support from Haas to designate the Law Firm Kennedy and Graven as the 2022 GFW Public School District Official Legal Counsel. Motion Carried Fix GFW School Board Compensation Appoint GFW School Board Committee Members i. MSHSL Representative – Lee ii. River Bend Education District Representative – Merkel iii. For – Prochniak, Merkel, Kuehn, Lee Against – Schmidt Abstain – Haas Executive (Closed) Session Kuehn moved with support from Haas to recess our Special Board Meeting for a closed session at 7:22 p.m. Motion Carried 7:26 p.m. Chair Kuehn opened the closed session Kuehn moved with support from Haas to adjourn our closed session at 7:51pm. Motion Carried 7:55 p.m. Chair Kuehn reopened the Special Board Meeting. Resolution Proposing Immediate Discharge of a Tenured Teacher Kuehn moved with support from Haas.to immediately discharge Tenured Teacher A.
