GSSW continues to deal with staffing storage, COVID protocols

The COVID pandemic has been something that long-term care facilities have had to endure for the past two years and it continues to be something that Good Samaritan Center—Winthrop continues to address. Add that to the staffing shortages and the challenges are many for the local facility. Interim Director of Nursing Lynette Froehlich explained that Good Samaritan made it mandatory for all staff to be vaccinated. Those that weren’t vaccinated had to obtained a waiver which needed to be approved by the corporate office. They are then subject to self-testing twice a week. “Everybody, every day, gets screened,” Froehlich said. At the main entrance, there is a thermometer to take temperatures. Anybody that enters the building, has to be screened. That is all then put into a database.
