Grackle Days begins Thursday
Winthrop’s Grackle Days celebration begins on Thursday with a full slate of activities throughout the weekend. It all gets underway with the Miss Winthrop Coronation on Thursday evening. The event takes place at 7 p.m. at The Warehouse. The first Button Drawing will be held for $100 Winthrop Scrip Money. Get up bright and early Friday for the Breakfast on the Farm at the Berdan Center beginning at 6 a.m. and serving until 9 a.m. The T-Bird Arts spaghetti dinner will take place Friday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Peace Lutheran Church. BINGO will be held at 6:30 p.m. at Hahn’s Dining and Lounge. The evening culminates with the street dance featuring IV Play in the heated tent on Second Street and North Carver from 8 p.m. to midnight. If you are a Bloody Mary fan, head up to Pimo’s Bar & Grill from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday morning. Looking for some gifts or something for your home, check out the vendor and craft show at Hahn’s Dining and Lounge. It starts at 9 a.m. and lasts until 1 p.m. The Annual Winthrop Art Show will be held at the Winthrop Public Library 10:45 a.m.-1 p.m. This year’s featured artist is Lori Kruggel who will be speaking shortly after noon. The event is sponsored by the Winthrop General Federation of Women’s Club. The second button drawing worth $25 in Winthrop Scrip Money will be held. Second Street and North Carver will be where you can check out farm equipment at the tractor roll-in beginning at 11 a.m. A rib contest will be held at the First Lutheran Church parking lot from noon to 3 p.m. You can sample the ribs under the tent. The event is sponsored by GuideCraft with the winners announced at 3:30 p.m. Pimo’s will be hosting a burger bar from 1-4 p.m. If cards are your game, head to Hahn’s at 2 p.m. for a Sheephead Tournament. A bean bar tournament will start at 2:30 p.m. at The Warehouse with registration beginning an hour prior. The double-elimination tournament is sponsored by Tanker Bay. Enjoy some afternoon music under the heated tent when the Country Fried Grubers will play 1 p.m.-4 p.m. When they are finished, head on down to the Winthrop Fire Hall where the Winthrop Fire Department will be hosting its annual pork chop feed. It starts at 4:30 p.m. and continues to 7:30 p.m. A variety show will be held at 7 p.m. in the GFW High School Auditorium. The third and fourth button drawings, both for $25 in Winthrop Scrip Money will be held. The night ends when Second Notion hits the stage under the heated tent from 8 p.m. to midnight. Sunday morning begins with the Winthrop Lions omelette breakfast, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at St. Francis Catholic Church. The final button drawing for $25 in scrip money will be held. There will be kids games at The Warehouse from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. followed by the movie “Clifford the Big Red Dog” at 3:15 p.m. Old time music will be provided by The Misfits at Tanker Bay and live acoustic music will take place at Pimo’s, both beginning at 2 p.m.
