Sloots mark 20 years volunteering for Grackle Days breakfast

by Michael Mattison

For each and every year of the 20 that Breakfast on the Farm has been a part of Grackle Days, you have seen Harry and Kellie Sloot there earlly in the morning making sure that everyone that attends gets a good meal and a time to visit with neighbors in the community.

It all started in 2002. Kellie was serving on the Winthrop Area of Commerce Chamber Board at the time. The Board felt that it should do something to highlight farmers and agriculture in the area. An ag sub-committee was formed and Kellie volunteered for it along with Linda Benson, LeAnn Byro, Tammy Fredin, Mike Rettmann and Marlon Bacon. The group came up with the idea for a breakfast at a local farm during Grackle Days.
