Lafayette City Council discusses blight issues

by Doug Hanson

The members of the Lafayette City Council took a tour throughout the city to check on the condition of property for both businesses and residents. They also received written comments and photos from residents concerning 400 Wanser and 691 Lafayette Avenue. Finally some residents attended the meeting to emphasized their concern for unkept property as well as unwanted wild animals, junk equipment, drugs and more. Mayor Sandy Peterson stated that within the past year, the City has updated its ordinance on blight and can now enforce rules, including cleaning up property and assessing the owners. The Council promised it will take action. The discussion also include lesser problems, but still problems with a variety of issues. It was mentioned that after taking the tour last year and sending out letters, the town looked better this year.
