Sheriff’s Office, BCA investigating homicide outside of Winthrop
On September 20 at approximately 2:37 p.m., the Sibley County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 phone call of an unresponsive person with unknown trauma at a rural farm site about one mile north of the City of Winthrop in Transit Township. The Winthrop Ambulance, Winthrop Police and deputies from the Sibley County Sheriff’s Office responded to the address.
First responders found an adult male deceased at the farm site. The adult male was later identified to be Dennis Weitzenkamp, 79 of Winthrop. An investigation was started by law enforcement to determine the cause of death. Assisting at the scene was a Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension Special Agent, Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension Crime Scene Team and a medical examiner from the Midwest Medical Examiners Office.
Weitzenkamp’s body was transported to the Midwest Medical Examiners Office for an autopsy. An autopsy has confirmed that the death is a homicide.
The Sibley County Sheriff’s Office and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension are continuing to investigate the incident. The Sibley County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public to contact the Sibley County Sheriff’s Office at 507-237-4330 with any information relevant to the investigation.
