Special Olympics providing for local athletes

by Maggie Buettner

Since the end of September, Code 3 Bowling in Gibbon has been overtaken by a wild bunch! To clarify, the Wild Bunch is actually a group of athletes from the New Ulm Area Special Olympics. Every Sunday they have practice which consists of bowling one game with their fellow athletes. They are practicing for their upcoming tournaments in November which will be in Mankato and Bloomington. The athletic program for this group is organized like a high school league. In March, practice begins for track and field and basketball. If they encounter poor weather conditions, they rent space, like from the Vogel Arena in New Ulm, for practice.
