City seeks community input on grocery store decision

The Winthrop City Council has determined public input is needed into the decision of Winthrop Market, LLC. Winthrop Market has successfully operated for more than three years and wants to establish a long-term solution to keep the store operating in Winthrop for years. Winthrop Market is an essential service to the City of Winthrop, residents and businesses. Winthrop Market has reached out to the Winthrop City Council and the Winthrop Economic Development Authority (WEDA) for financial assistance of $250,000 for purchasing the building, equipment and access capital for repairs. The City Council and the WEDA believe it is in the best interest of the community to hear feedback from residents. Feedback from residents will be taken at two work sessions on December 12. The first session will begin at 3 p.m. and the second session will begin at 7 p.m. At each session additional information will be given to residents and feedback will be recorded. There will be no council action taken at either of these meetings. If residents are unable to attend either of the meetings, they are asked to give feedback via telephone or email. Contact Michael Looft, City Administrator, at 507-647-5306 or email Michael at We ask that residents record their name and address for public record purposes.
