Winthrop Council approves body cams for police

The Winthrop Police Department will be getting body cameras in 2023. The Winthrop City Council approved the purchase of five body cameras and two cameras for each squad car at its regular meeting on December 19.

The Council approved the purchase of the equipment and subscriptions fees for $34,969 plus an extra battery for each camera at a cost of about $100. This will be paid over a five-year period with the first year coming in at $8,233 and $6,684 for each of the remaining four years.
