GFW Theatre Department to host One-Act Play dinner theatre

After not being able to compete last year due to numerous illnesses at the One-Act Play competition, the GFW Theatre Department is gearing up for the Sub-Section. They will be hosting a dinner theatre on Saturday, Jan. 21. The group will be performing “Not So Grimm Tales” a one-act play by Kevin Bean as well as a few short skits. The play and skits will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the GFW High School Auditorium with dinner being served at 6:30 p.m. in the cafeteria. They will be competing against seven other schools in Sub-Section competition on Saturday, Jan. 28 at Tri-City United High School. If they advance, they would then compete at Section on February 4 and then State on February 10. Director Samarah Forster said the students picked the play because they loved the modern play on classic fairy tales. “It is a comedic, modern spoof on several classic princess fairy tales,” she said. Auditions were held the first week of December and they have been rehearsing since then, despite winter break and blizzards. About half of our cast is from GFW and half is from Sibley East. This has allowed them to make new friendships and really get out of their comfort zones. Tickets for Dinner Theater are $25, and tickets for only the show are $10.
