Asmus reflects on over four decades as clerk

by Michael Mattison
It’s been 44 years since Alfsborg Township has had a different clerk. It now does but the clerk has the same last name as the previous one—Asmus.
Walter Asmus began serving as township clerk in 1978 and now his daughter-in-law holds the position.
Asmus originally was appointed as justice of the peace in 1976 and served two years before running for the clerk position. He did so on the encouragement of a neighbor who was on the town board.
