GFD designs and delivers the rural rescue response trailer

by Maggie Buettner
On October 8th, 2019 the pagers went off for a man trapped in a grain bin. After a couple hours, members of his family noticed dad was missing and found him trapped. Gibbon Fire & Rescue responded to the call where Jerry Schwarzrock was trapped in the grain bin with corn up to his neck. Thankfully the responders were able to use their grain rescue tubes to stabilize the area around him. As Jerry was in and out of consciousness he was able to tell the responders that his leg was stuck in the auger. One of the responders was able to locate a neighboring farmer who brought a grain vac within minutes. It was about an hour to rescue him out of the grain bin and get him in an ambulance. The farmer spent about two and half weeks in the hospital but survived the accident.
