Council votes to move forward on Second Street project

by Michael Mattison
The Winthrop City Council voted to continue to move forward on the Second Street project as proposed by a 3-2 margin at its regular meeting on Monday evening. Council woman Megan Schmidt and Councilman Pete Machaiek voted against.
Schmidt wanted clarification on where the money for the streetscape portion of the project will come from and City Administrator Michael Looft informed the City Council that it would be from general obligation loans.
