Second generation owner expands Lafayette Lift Trucks
by Ruth Klossner
It was 25 years ago that Bob Anderson started his new business, Lafayette Lift Trucks, on a farm several miles northeast of Lafayette. Eighteen years later, Bob’s son Ben took over the business. Three years after that—in August 2019—Ben moved the business to Lafayette, settling in the former Denny’s Auto building at the intersection of Highway 15 and County Road 1.
“Dad started the business from scratch, from the back of a pickup. He had worked for Forklifts of Minnesota for 12 years before that,” Ben said.
After the pickup, Bob worked out of a double car garage, then put up a 36-by-54-foot pole barn. Bob concentrated on service, and sold used forklifts.
