Winthrop Lions Club donates wrestling mat
The Winthrop Lions Club donated a wrestling mat to the Winthrop Police Department. The cost of the mat was approximately $4,000. Police Chief Logan Anderson said the department uses the mat for defensive tactics trainings and it has been used several times already since moving into the new police station. They have held combined trainings with the Gaylord Police Department and also trained a new deputy hire for McLeod County. Anderson is the instructor. He plans to offer defensive tactics courses quarterly throughout the year and as needed for new hire trainings for agencies that need a place to train. “My goal is to get as many agencies to our facility for defensive tactics training as possible,” he said. All agencies in the county are invited to the quarterly trainings.
