Lafayette agrees to join Winthrop’s STREAM Wastewater Project

by Doug Hanson
The City of Lafayette held a special informational meeting on January 3rd to learn more about the STREAM Wastewater District Project that the City of Winthrop has been spearheading. Winthrop City Administrator Michael Looft also attended, to give a timeline of what has happened and an update on the project going forward.
During the regular January 8 Lafayette City Council meeting, the Council discussed the pros and cons of the project. For the past five years the City of Winthrop has been looking into a water reuse facility to make all wastewater from Winthrop usable by industries such as the ethanol plant. In 2022 Minnesota Pollution Control Agency asked what about your neighbor cities.
