T-Birds to play BLHS in tournament opener

It was a tight game throughout but the GFW Thunderbird boys basketball team would prevail 55-53 on New Ulm Cathedral’s home court. The T-Birds end the regular season with a 16-10 record overall and 9-7 record in the Tomahawk Conference.
GFW is seeded sixth in the Section Tournament and will host Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart in Winthrop on Friday at 7 p.m. The winner of that game will travel to BOLD on Tuesday, March 5, for an 8:01 p.m. game.
New Ulm Cathedral would go into the locker room at halftime clinging to a slim 26-25 lead.
The T-Birds would outscore the Mustangs 30-27 in the second half to gain the 2-point victory.
Easton Taylor led the team in scoring with 13 points. Dominic Rose added 10, Alex Johnson nine, Cole Jacobson eight, Tristian Kruger six, Ashton Buboltz four, Braylan Freitag three and Layton Hamre two.
Jacobson pulled down nine rebounds with Rose and Taylor each adding five and Johnson and Brennir Peterson each adding four.
Rose would dish for seven assists with Johnson and Taylor each adding three steals.
