Council representation requires a big committment

by Michael Mattison
Many things come with being a newly elected public official. There is your time committment, representing your constituents and learning the ins and outs of local government.
Martha Santelman is now midway through her second year serving on the Winthrop City Council.
She explained that the time committments vary from month to month. Much of that has to do with which committees that the councilperson has been assigned to. The officials receive their Council meeting packets on the Friday before the meeting, and depending on the amount of items on the agenda, there could be several attachments that need to be looked over.
