Lafayette Council decides to stop mowing county property

At the June Lafayette City Council meeting, a decision was made to stop mowing a triangle portion of land north of the salt shed and Isenberg Electric. Logan VanDeest had pointed out that the property belongs to Nicollet County, but the City was using it sometimes for training space.
At that meeting it was decided to stop mowing and maintaining that property and move the training space for the fire department to the waste water treatment area.
Cheri LeBrun attended the July meeting and asked for reasons for the decision. Mayor Curt Tauber stated, “I don’t think we should be using taxpayer money to maintain that.”
The discussion continued with the facts that the County is not mowing and tall grass and weeds are starting to take over. Some County employees have been asked about the situation, but no action has been taken.
