Winthrop man charged in Weitzenkamp murder

The Sibley County Attorney’s Office has filed a formal complaint with the Sibley County District Court charging Travis Joel Bauer (DOB 07-29-1976) with second degree murder. This charge stems from the death of Dennis Duane Weitzenkamp on September 20, 2022, in rural Winthrop.
According to the complaint filed in Sibley County District Court, the Sibley County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from Bauer at 2:35 p.m. on September 20, stating that he had found Dennis Duane Weitzenkamp unresponsive at a farmstead in rural Winthrop. He said he had just talked with Weitzenkamp on the road 10-15 minutes prior on his way to NAPA. Upon returning to the farmstead, Bauer found Weitzenkamp.
