Mayors reflect on State of the Cities

The mayors of Winthrop, Gibbon and Lafayette discuss the past year for their respective cities and what is in front of them for 2024.

Winthrop Mayor
Julie Trebelhorn
1) How would you assess the state of the city?
Winthrop is in a great position in 2024. We are fully staffed with employees in every department who care about their community and who do their best to provide good service to our residents. Dedicated volunteers staff our Fire Department and Ambulance service. Many cities find themselves unable to fill paid and/or volunteer positions, and Winthrop is very fortunate to have the people we do.
Our financial position has been strengthened by investing in a Minnesota Municipal fund, consolidating accounts, and positioning ourselves to take advantage of higher interest rates. The city has always had a solid financial foundation, the slight enhancements will increase revenue to help pay for future equipment and project needs. This will help Winthrop maintain our triple-A bond rating, which impacts the rate with which we can borrow money.
