Changes coming to Lafayette park

by Doug Hanson
It has been discussed for six months, but the time has come for the facelift to the Lafayette park to take place. Reports at the Lafayette City Council meeting on April 8 stated that the new playground equipment will arrive on May 1st. A crew is set to start unpacking and constructing the equipment as soon as May 2nd. The Lions will be doing ground work preparation before the equipment arrives.
Also Lafayette Park and Recreation had a permit approved for a new eight foot by ten foot storage shed to be place on the existing concrete pad next to the refreshment stand. The shed will be built by the GFW shop class.
Public Works Supervisor Al Fox reported that he has been continuing to work with the various State Departments on the grants, applications and permits. He added that currently some of the compliance schedules are not feasible for small cities. He requested and was granted an extension for final comments to the State. The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency has set up another meeting for April 29 to discuss the compliance schedules and variance options.
The local Board of Appeals & Equalization Hearing was held at the start of the meeting. No one came to address the Council or Nicollet County Assessor Shana Jackson.
Donations were accepted from Dave’s Place & the electronic tips for $1,000 for the Lafayette Ambulance fund and from the Fill Me Up donation bucket of $40 for the 125th Celebration.
Ambulance officers were elected at the March 25 meeting. Mark Dick and Marti Uhde were elected president and vice president, respectively. The other positions were filled also: secretary-Gary Griebel, data reporting-Shari Beranek, maintenance & supplies-Clete Goblirsch, training-Rhonda Goblirsch, infectious control-Claire Gieseke and active 911-Shari Beranek.
The 125th Celebration Committee held a meeting on April 3rd and brainstormed on events for the Wednesday through Sunday event. The next meeting is June 17th.
