Council moves to abate property

by Michael Mattison
The Winthrop City Council approved the abatement of 101 N. Hennepin at its regular July meeting.
The property has been abated multiple times. Health and Human Services informed the City that conditions inside the home were not good and the building was inspected in April and reevaluated in May. City Administrator Michael Looft said there are now structural and heating issues as well as no plumbing. “This building is becoming a hazard to the health and wellbeing of the community,” he said.
The owner now has 30 days after being served to fix the items. If not, they will be taken to court to have it condemned.
