Lafayette approves general fund budget not whole budget
by Doug Hanson
Only a portion of the City of Lafayette’s budget was approved at the regular meeting on December 8th. The general budget, that does not include the utilities enterprise funds was approved after a lengthy discussion on rates.
The discussion on the general fund was started by Councilman Tom Polich, who thought the City should continue to hire a lawn service. The new budget included mowers, so the city employees could handle the mowing and weed spraying.
Mayor Curt Tauber and Councilman Logan VanDeest had volunteered to fill in when the city crew’s workload wouldn’t allow them to do the job.
But mowing became quite a discussion topic. Polich contended that the city crew did not have the time. Tauber stated that the lawn service companies that the city has hired have not done a complete job.
VanDeest stated that he didn’t think it would hurt to try it, which Tauber agreed with.
Councilman Dave Reed stated that it’s already in the budget, document everything and review it in a year.
