Olson Rookie Champion for MSAA

by Maggie Buettner
One could say, Lane Olson was born to be an auctioneer. He attended his first sale when he was three days old as his mom was a clerk at the sale barn. He spent a lot of time there when he was younger. Lane stated, “From there I started to kinda mumble like an auctioneer and said I wanted to be an auctioneer, and so I started practicing all the time and still to this day I practice all the time.
“My first competition was the FFA contest, then I decided to join the rookie division and try that out as well. It was a little nerve wrecking at first to be up on the stage with a whole bunch of people in the crowd and the panel of judges right in front of you with a camera right there as well. It was very nerve wrecking. I can for sure say when people say ‘You had me shaking in my boots’ well I was for sure doing that. I felt confident but there’s always that nerve you’ll mess up and that’s what I feel like is the scariest thing in the contest.” This particular contest was held in Moorhead, MN and was sponsored by the Minnesota State Auctioneers Association, MSAA. The rookie division was designed to get younger people involved in the auction industry. He was Champion for the rookie division for the MSAA and was the reserve champion at the FFA contest this year.
