Gibbon Funfest gets underway Thursday
“Turn up the Heat” is a fitting theme for Thursday’s Business Appreciation meet and greet beginning at 5 p.m. which will open up Gibbon Funfest.
The Local will be hosting a pool tournament at 7 p.m.
Whit Wort Brewery will have acoustic music by Michael Haefs beginning at 7 p.m.
Bring your best dessert to Grace and Frankie’s on Friday at 5:30 p.m. Judging will take place at 7 p.m.
The co-ed volleyball tournament begins at 7 p.m. as well.
Many events are beginning at 6 p.m. There will be kids sidewalk chalk fun; a pie social and hot sandwiches sponsored by St. Peter’s Lutheran Church; the Gibbon Reds community kickball game; Wacky Hairdos and Art in the park sponsored by Blazin Stars 4-H Club; a giant bubble station for kids at the Gibbon Library parking lot; and music by the Gibbon Area Uncommon Band of Renown.
The kids and adult drawings, sponsored by Ogren Insurance, KNUJ and Jason and Jessica Rieke, will take place at 8:15 p.m.
Red Dirt Road will perform from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.
A fireworks display will take place at about 10 p.m. and is sponsored by CODE3 Bowling, Hoffman Electric, Central
United Cooperative and Michael Foods.
On Saturday, Gibbon High School Classes 1949-1987 and GFW classes will have a multi-class reunion 9:30 a.m.-noon at the new GFW school
A double-elimination pickleball tournament begins at 9 a.m.
The tractor show runs from 9 a.m.-noon.
A co-ed volleyball tournament for ages 13-18 gets underway at 10 a.m.
Crafters, vendors and a farmers market will begin at 10 a.m.
The Marv Nissel Band plays at 10 a.m. until noon and is sponsored by Legend Seed and Ag Edge Inc.
The bean bag tournament for all ages begins at 11 a.m.
Immanuel Lutheran Church will have kids crafts, face painting and balloons in the park at 11 a.m.
Grace and Frankies is hosting a double elimination dart tournament at noon.
The Gibbon Fire Department, in recognition of its 135th anniversary, will have an auto extraction demonstration at noon. They will also be giving fire truck rides from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
The classic car show, sponsored by Schwarzrock Autobody, runs from 1 p.m.-4 p.m.
The Tanner Stark Band will provide entertainment from 1:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m. and is sponsored by Renville Sibley Sanitation and Beetle’s Sharpening Services.
The Little Scrapper Pedal Pull starts at 3:30 p.m. and is sponsored by Ag Revival and Hillmann Backhoe and Tiling.
Registration for the Ultimate Tippy Cup Tournament starts at 4:30 p.m and the event takes off at 5 p.m. It is sponsored by Whit Wort Brewery and True Real Estate: Lindsay Thomes.
Block party family fun activities will run from 5 p.m.-9 p.m. It will be located on Main Street and feature a bounce house, face painting, balloon animals and more. It is sponsored by The Local, Grace & Frankies and Whit Wort Brewery.
Another bean bag tournament begins at 7 p.m. on Main Street.
Saturday evening concludes with the street dance from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. with music by Strange Daze.
Worship in the Park will begin Sunday’s activities at 10 a.m. It is hosted by St. Peter’s Lutheran Church and sponsored by South View Living Center.
Bingo will be held for one hour beginning at 11 a.m.
The Gibbon Lions pork chop dinner will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The crafters, vendors and farmers market will be back at noon.
The Mages Family Band will provide music noon-2:30 p.m.
That will be followed by Gibbon Area Uncommon Band of Renown from 2:45 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
A kids treasure hunt for children 12 and under will be held at the volleyball courts and is sponsored by Firle Ag Solutions.
The Gibbon Reds will host the Searles Grizzlies at McGowan Field beginning at 4 p.m.
Following the game, the kids bike drawing and adult prizes will take place. You must be present to win. The event is sponsored by Gibbon Lumber & Hardware and Gibbon Lions.
Musical chairs will end the weekend festivities after the drawing.
Bounce houses will be available Friday-Sunday.
Food vendors will also be in town throughout the weekend. They include: RC Poppers, Sunny Days Comfort Foods, S & L Shakes, Mimi’s Mini Donuts. Maria’s Tacos and Lep’s Take Me Out Thai Cuisine.
City-wide garage sales will run Thursday-Saturday.
