Lafayette Council reviews funding for several projects
Public Works Supervisor Al Fox had center stage on May 13 as the Lafayette City Council discussed the various grants that are part of the water, sewer and storm sewer projects.
The million dollar grant that is now in the hands of the Environmental Protection Agency will be for the Reverse Osmosis Project. There is still paperwork being completed so the City can start drawing down on these funds.
The current State Bonding bill in the 2024 legislature requires that the City receiving the funding for a project has to set aside an account to replace the infrastructure when the design life is up. Lafayette is included in that bonding bill with a one million dollar grant. However, the Legislature did not pass any bonding bill in this session, so Fox now is applying for a different grant through the Public Finance Authority so the project can keep moving forward.
The total RO Project will cost $2.6 million. With the two above grants, the City has started the paperwork to apply to the Public Finance Authority for a loan for the remaining $300,000.
