Maverick Automotive provides auto repair, car sales

There is a new mechanic and used car dealer in Winthrop. Maverick Automotive Inc. is located on Highway 19 on the east edge of Winthrop and is owned by Peter and Latosha Tuma.
He purchased the former Dave’s Auto building in March of 2024. After doing some extensive renovations, they started taking business at the location in December and it was fully operational at the first of the year.
He also has two locations in Arlington as well, which includes a gas station and auto repair shop as well a location for larger jobs and car sales.
Tuma figures that 75 percent of the business at the Winthrop location is auto repair and 25 percent car sales. “I think what we would like to do is get that more to a 50/50 mix as we ramp up car sales,” he said. “It is really important to have good reliable vehicles that aren’t $50,000 or $80,000.”
