Grackle Days is here

Winthrop’s 39th annual Grackle Days begins on Thursday and this year those attending are encouraged to wear their favorite western attire.
It all kicks off with the Miss Winthrop coronation on Thursday evening at 7 p.m. at The Warehouse. This is where the first button drawing will be held and it will be for $100. Candidates are Desirae Schmidt, Taylor Sommer and Madyson Steele.
Get up bright and early on Friday and head out to the UFC Berdan Center for the free Grackle Breakfast. Check out the exhibits and visit with friends.
There will be a free shredding service 9 a.m.-noon by Jypsy Sisters with a limit of three boxes.
The T-Bird Community Arts spaghetti dinner will be held at Peace Lutheran Church from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. with the second Grackle Button drawing for $25.
Big Dave’s Mini Donuts will be available downtown 3-8 p.m.
The evening concludes with the Bill Litzau and Open Highway Band at Tanker Bay beginning at 8 p.m. Get there early for the meat raffle at 6 p.m. and the cash drawing at 8 p.m.
Saturday begins with the vendor/craft show at The Warehouse from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be the third and fourth Grackle Button drawings for $25 each.
Grackle Doodle Showdown will be taking place at the same place and time as the vendor fair. This is a kids coloring event and the photos will be displayed later at the Ducks Unlimited Gun Bingo and be voted on by the public.
The Winthrop Historical Museum will be open noon-4 p.m. and will feature past interviews in the theater room.
The Winthrop GFWC Art Show will be held at the Winthrop Public Library from 9 a.m. to noon. Erik Kask is the featured artist and will be presenting at 11 a.m.
Grackle Tales will be held at The Mercantile from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. It will feature storytelling and poetry celebrating the spirit of Grackle Days with original short stories, poems and memories of Grackle Days past.
Tanker Bay will be the site for music as the Eagle Lake Band performs at 2 p.m. and Ashalee Ann Band performs at 6 p.m.
Five food trucks will be available on North Carver Street throughout the day.
The Winthrop Fire Department will hold its annual pork chop feed at the Fire Hall from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Buffalo Alice Band will end the night when they perform at The Warehouse beginning at 9 p.m.
Make sure to attend the Sunday morning Winthrop Lions Breakfast at St. Francis Catholic Church from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
There will once again be food trucks available beginning at 11 a.m.
Arhart Mallards DU Gun Bingo will take place at 1 p.m at The Warehouse.
The final event of the weekend will be a performance by Country Fried Grubers at 3 p.m. at Tanker Bay.
