Johnsons receive Century Farm recognition

by Michael Mattison
The Johnson Family is celebrating 100 years on the family farm and were recognized as a Century Farm by Farm Bureau at both the Sibley County Fair and the Minnesota State Fair this year.
It all started on February 6, 1925, when Maritz and Marie Johnson brought a farm just north of the Bernadotte Church. They farmed the land for 48 years.
The 80-acre parcel of land was purchased for $8,500.
Russell Johnson, son of Maritz and Marie, took ownership of the farm on July 25, 1972, and had it for 10 years before Ron, his son, bought it.
Ron and his brother Kevin farmed in partnership for several decades and now Scott, Ron’s son, and Brent, Kevin’s son, farm the land.
In 1972, Ron and his wife Denise moved onto the farm after Marie passed away and have lived their ever since.
