Winthrop Council takes action on many items in full meeing

The Winthrop City Council had a full agenda at its regular June meeting earlier this month.
The yearly financial audit showed growth in the general fund due to the capital funds being replaced that were borrowed from in the past.
“Overall, we had a pretty normal year,” said City Clerk Heather Haun. “Overall, the auditors said that it’s looking okay and transition and the transparency is a lot better with the new way of showing it.”
City Administrator Michael Looft presented a comparison of disbursements from 2015 to 2025. “Last year, after our two years of projects, we actually got below for disbursement spending what we did in 2015. Despite appearances, we are trying to eliminate expenditures. Between 22 and 23, we decreased spending by 17 percent in the city.” Insurance and work comp caused things to go “sideways.” He added that if the property valuation remained constant, there was a dip in the taxes for that time period.
