Winthrop approves preliminary budget
The Winthrop City Council passed its preliminary budget on Tuesday at its regular meeting. It has scheduled a work session in October to look at the budget closely to see if there are areas that can be reduced. As it stands, the tax levy for the coming year would be $831,747, an increase of 6.59 percent over last year. The approved preliminary budget is $1,656,237 which is 4 percent higher than last years final budget while the projected revenues are $824,490 which is 2.71 percent greater than the previous year.
