Smith back at GFW as interim superintendent

by Michael Mattison
After spending 12 years at GFW at the beginning of his career, Kelly Smith is back to serve the district one year as interim superintendent.
He took over the superintendent position here on August 1 and the contract runs through June 30 of next year.
Smith started his teaching career in Winthrop as a math teacher and coach. He coached football in Gibbon for two years and then at Gaylord-Winthrop before becoming the athletic director. After taking a leave of absence to get his Master’s Degree for his education administration license, GFW came about. He came back and took a position as assistant principal at GFW High School and later moved into the business manager job in 1989. He stayed with the district through 1993.
