Some new faces in local government elected
Some of the local elections came in with some tight results.
In Winthrop, incumbent Mayor Julie Trebelhorn retained her position, defeating Brent Roiger 358-319.
Martha Santelman and Edward Stoll were elected to the two four-year terms for Winthrop City Council with 281 and 252 votes, respectively. Five other candidates were vying for the position with Brandon Nelson the next candidate at 183.
The two-year Council position in Winthrop were all write-in votes with Kelly Pierson winning the position with 101 votes. Gordy Grack received 67 votes.
For GFW School Board, Russell Miller won the Winthrop seat with 540 votes, Mark Turtle the Gibbon seat with 522 and Amy Acree the Fairfax seat with 453.
In Gibbon, Steve Klukas ran unopposed for mayor and received 344 votes.
The two Council seats in Gibbon were won by Greg Hartmann with 252 votes and Dave Theis 217 votes. Shannon Zangel received 142 votes.
In Lafayette, Curtis Tauber defeated current Mayor Sandra Peterson 143-114.
There will be two new members of the Lafayette City Council as Andrew Hartley and Logan VanDeest received 176 and 154 votes, respectively, while incumbant Scott Portner got 110 votes.
