Gibbon Council makes plans for future development
by Doug Hanson
Planning for the future was one of the main themes at the March Gibbon City Council meeting. The Otto Hartmann addition, south of the softball field, had been studied for a possible housing development. But in the end it was determined that the fill needed and the infrastructure costs were just too expensive.
Dave and Terry Theis offered to purchase the approximately 11 acres remaining from the addition for $90,000. The border of the land would be improved with new trees and possible walkways. The interior would still be available for the community for a possible sunflower or corn maze. The Theis family would work with different organizations to develop projects in the area, keeping it as a community open space. A motion to sell the property passed.
