K9 Nash joins WPD

by Michael Mattison
It has only been a short time but Winthrop Police Department’s new addition has already made an impact.
Nash, now 16 months old, joined the Department on January 11 with Officer Nick Eickschen being his handler. Before Nash could officially do work for the force, he and Eickschen had to go through 12 weeks of training.
When Nash arrived, he rode around with Eickschen for almost two months to get him acclimated to riding and the sirens. “Just like people, not everyone responds the same way to things,” he said. They also worked on basic obedience.
