GFW passes budget

The GFW School Board has been putting in extra time trying to pass a balanced budget. The latest budget proposal had a $85,000 deficit. A special meeting was called for Monday evening with Superintendent Kelly Smith asked to search for more reductions.
Ken Briese opened the budget talks with a motion to cut one more teaching and learning coordinator and paid tenure teachers a stipend to mentor the non-tenured teachers. That motion included approving the rest of the general fund budget.
After a second by Emilee Stehr, Briese explained his reasoning and that it would save approximately $80,000. Mark Turtle countered with the administration is telling us they need that position. “We are not in the room every day to see what is needed.”
