David “Dave” Peter Mueller, 86 of Winthrop, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on November 1, 2025.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Berthold and Silbena Mueller, siblings Bertha (Melvin) Pederson, Zylpha Mueller, Victoria Mueller and brother-in-law Dave Carter. In-laws Art and Dorothy Weitzenkamp, and brother-in-law Dennis Weitzenkamp.
He is survived by by loving wife of 66 years, Darlene; children Kimberley Mueller, Tamera (Brian) Bisping, Todd Mueller and Kraig Mueller; grandchildren Sarah, Alexandra, Nicholas, Holden and Clara; great-granddaughter Eleanor; sisters Marion Carter and Karen (Ray) Klenk; brothers Robert Mueller, Mike (Mary) Mueller; and brother-in-law David Weitzenkamp (Marilyn), sisters-in-law Joyce Weitzenkamp and Karen Weitzenkamp.
Dave attended Wartburg College, where he played football and studied theology. In 1959, he returned home and opened a Texaco station in Winthrop, marking the start of a long and remarkable sales career. Dave was always selling something. Over the years, he owned companies that sold nearly everything—from fertilizer, cattle, Beefalo, clogs, candy, cars and his own beverage company, Offical Beverages. In his retirement, he was “the sample guy” at Hy-Vee. Through his career he had the opportunity to travel across the United States, Canada, Mexico and South America. Dave was always dreaming of the next big sale, the next big idea!
Dave shared 66 years of marriage with his wife, Darlene. During these years, they had the privilege of living in several different places, most notably—Windom, MN; Mitchell, SD; Atkinson, NE; Faribault, MN; and Winthrop, MN. Dave’s greatest pride was his family. He treasured sharing family history and telling stories to anyone willing to listen. Gifted with an ability to connect, Dave made people feel seen and valued, he would give the shirt off his back to anyone who needed it. Whether they were lifelong friends or stangers he met in passing, he believed every encounter had purpose, and was always interested in finding that connection with anyone he met. No matter what they looked like or what story they have experienced, Dave lived by the motto that you can’t judge a person until you’ve walked a mile in their shoes—because everyone had a story.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Winthrop at City Hall on June 20, 2026, from 1-4 p.m. All are welcome.
Cards and memorials may be sent to: 711 North Carver, Winthrop, MN 55396.
