Land development highlighted at January Gibbon Council meeting

by Doug Hanson
A couple different properties were discussed for land development at the January Gibbon City Council regular meeting. A Residential Development Committee was organized at the December meeting and had met twice to discuss ways to promote Gibbon.
Since land development additions usually have a name attached to them, the committee choose Meder Field Addition, which was the name of the former football field. That name is pending approval from the county.
The committee, which includes Tom Schaefer, Nickie Sabo, Amy Weber, Dave Theis, Dana Lietzau and Jason Rettig, created a chart with strengths, weaknesses, threats and opportunities listed. Strengths included small town charm, active community programs, new K-12 school, private school option and high speed internet, etc. Weaknesses included limited employment opportunities, smaller marketing budget, no curb & gutter as this time, limited infant day care, etc. Threats were listed as economic uncertainty, low land concerns, future assessments, etc. and opportunities were remote work trends, new infrastructure, option to buy more than one lot, new pickle ball and frisbee golf courses, possible job opportunities with the new school, etc.
