NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING REGARDING PROPOSED MANAGEMENT OF INDIAN LAKE IN SIBLEY COUNTY, MINNNESOTA   NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that a public hearing will be held by the Department of Natural Resources on Thursday, December 16 at 6:00 p.m. at the Winthrop City Hall, 305 North Main Street, Winthrop, MN 55396, regarding the management and wildlife designation of Indian Lake in Sibley County (Sections 20-21, 28-29 of T113N, R29W); DOW inventory #72006600, pursuant to M.S. Section 97A.101.  All interested persons are invited to attend to present formal testimony or ask questions. Proposed management includes temporary water level drawdowns and motorized watercraft restrictions.   M.S. 97A.101 allows the restriction of surface use on Designated Wildlife Lakes after public input is taken.   These restrictions are intended to protect aquatic plants and would apply to watercraft use during the open water season. Restrictions would not apply to driving motorized vehicles on the ice during winter. Boat motors have been shown to negatively impact aquatic vegetation. Protecting aquatic plants is critical to maintaining wildlife habitat and water quality on Indian Lake. Protection can be achieved by restricting the use of motorized watercraft on the entire lake including electric trolling motors. The proposed restriction would protect breeding waterfowl and their broods, and minimize disturbances to feeding and resting wildlife during various life stages including both spring and fall migrations.  An overview presentation of the proposed management plan will be given at the hearing.  A copy of the plan is available from Steve Kittelson, Wildlife Lake Specialist, Madelia DNR Office, 35365 800th Avenue, Madelia, MN  56062 or steve.kittelson@state.mn.us.  Copies will also be available at the Winthrop City Hall and at the hearing.  The plan is posted on the MN DNR website at:   https://www.dnr.state.mn.us/wildlife/shallowlakes/program-work.html  Written testimony is welcome and will be accepted at the Madelia DNR Office at the above address or comments may be submitted t steve.kittelson@state.mn.us until January 16, 2022 at 4:30 pm.   Upon advance request, information will be provided in alternative form.  Any person with such a request should contact Steve Kittelson at 507-578-8891, or steve.kittelson@state.mn.us, or the above address, no later than December 10, 2021 5-6(af)c
